Warrior | Super Novium
Process Breakdown
Project Role: Art Direction & Senior Motion Designer
Formats: 16×9 and 4×5, delivered in 30s and 15s versions
This project focused on art direction and motion execution for a product-driven piece introducing the Super Novium hockey stick.
The objective was to showcase the stick’s advanced technology and design through high-impact motion graphics, balancing technical clarity with a bold, futuristic visual tone. The work needed to feel premium and energetic while clearly communicating the product’s performance-driven features.
The visual system was designed to scale across multiple aspect ratios and durations, ensuring consistent pacing, hierarchy, and impact across all deliverables.
Challenges & Solutions
Accurate Product Representation
A primary challenge was modeling and texturing the hockey stick to precisely match its real-world counterpart, particularly the iridescent finish. The material needed to respond naturally to light without feeling exaggerated or artificial.
To address this, a focused look-development process was used to refine layered materials, reflections, and subtle color shift. This ensured the surface behavior remained physically grounded while still reading clearly in motion.
Designing a Fully 3D Environment
Another challenge was creating a fully 3D space environment that felt immersive and visually striking while supporting the product as the focal point. The environment needed to complement the futuristic aesthetic without competing with the stick itself.
By carefully controlling lighting, scale, and composition, the environment was designed to frame the product and reinforce its advanced technology. This allowed the stick to remain the visual anchor while enhancing the overall cinematic impact.
Integrating 2D and 3D Motion Systems
The final challenge was blending 2D and 3D motion elements into a cohesive system.
By treating 2D graphics as an extension of the 3D space rather than overlays, the motion language remained unified. This approach allowed technical callouts and accents to support the narrative while maintaining a polished, consistent visual style.
Result
The final deliverables present the Super Novium hockey stick through a scalable, high-impact motion system delivered across multiple formats and durations. The project translates advanced product technology into a clear, visually engaging narrative suitable for both digital distribution and presentation contexts.
