Wasabi | Motion System
Responsive MOGRT files
Process Breakdown
Project Role: Art Direction & Senior Motion Designer
Formats: Modular MOGRT system designed for scalable branded video content across multiple formats and applications.
For this project, I designed and developed a flexible motion graphics system for Wasabi that could be used across a variety of branded video content. The goal was to create a consistent visual language while giving editors the flexibility to quickly adapt graphics for different content without rebuilding animations in After Effects.
The system included reusable MOGRTs for lower thirds, speaker title cards, full-screen titles, section headers, statistic callouts, percentage counters, quote graphics, CTAs, end cards, backgrounds, and transitions. Each template was designed to work as part of a larger visual system while remaining flexible enough to accommodate changing copy, imagery, and content.
Challenges & Solutions
Balancing flexibility with brand consistency
A key challenge was giving editors enough control to adapt each template without allowing the underlying design system to break.
To solve this, I developed controlled parameters for text, imagery, positioning, scale, and other customizable elements while maintaining the established typography, spacing, and motion language. This allowed editors to make necessary content changes directly in Premiere Pro while preserving a consistent branded look.
Building responsive layouts
The templates needed to support a wide range of copy without requiring manual layout adjustments for every use.
I built responsive behaviors using expressions and procedural controls that allowed typography, backgrounds, strokes, masks, and supporting graphic elements to automatically adjust as content changed. This created a more efficient workflow while keeping layouts visually consistent across the system.
Creating a unified motion language
Because the toolkit included many different types of graphics, each template needed to feel distinct in function while still belonging to the same family.
I established consistent approaches to timing, easing, transitions, typography, and graphic movement throughout the toolkit. This created a cohesive motion identity that could scale across different types of Wasabi content.
Result
The final system transformed a collection of individual graphics into a reusable motion toolkit that could support ongoing content production. By combining art direction, motion design, responsive layouts, and MOGRT development, the system gave editors greater flexibility and efficiency while maintaining a consistent level of design and animation across Wasabi's video content.
